“Penny” came to IRES with Molly in September of 2024. Penny is the sweetest old lady, she is around 29 years old! She has PPID and dental issues. She requires a special diet as well as medication to help keep her healthy.

Cowboy came to retire at IRES in March of 2024.  Meaghan has known him since he was 4, he is now 22! Cowboy enjoys going for trail rides and hanging out with the minis! Cowboy has PPID and requires a special diet as well as medications.

Binx came to IRES in December of 2023 as a 3 year old. Binx was extremely skittish, scared of everyone and everything. After some suspicion we ran some blood work we found out she was was in foal! Tillie is her 2024 Foal and Betty is her 2023 foal.

PorkChop came to IRES in December of 2023 as a 6 month old. He had overgrown feet, an underbite, terrible pyoderma and he was underweight.

Betty came to IRES in December of 2023 as a 6 month old . She was absolutely terrified of us and life in general. But once she figured out we were the treat humans that changed quickly! It takes her a minute to trust people but once she does she’s your best friend!

Tillie was born here at IRES on August 14th, 2024! She definitely keeps us on our toes with her spicy personality.

Apollo, a 3–4-year-old Nigerian Dwarf wether, came to us in severe pain from prolonged horn banding that caused extensive damage and infection. He was immediately placed in quarantine and received pain management, antibiotics, and careful wound care. One horn detached due to tissue loss, and the other required ongoing treatment, including the recent discovery of a hidden secondary band. Despite everything, Apollo remained gentle and resilient throughout his recovery. Today, he is fully healed, comfortable, and thriving .

Wilma was found roaming the streets in a local town! The local PD picked her up and transferred her to a local shelter! Her owners never showed up for her and she was transferred to an amazing sanctuary in Ely! Miss. Piggy was looking for a friend and we were excited to welcome Wilma to IRES in November of 2024.

Snowflake was an owner surrender along with Patches in April of 2025. Snowflake is an older goat with a playful personality and is as kind as can be.

Nico came to IRES in December of 2024. He is settling in to the sanctuary perfectly! He has a spunky attitude and makes us laugh everyday!

Nico was adopted on August 7th 2025!

Misty arrived at Iron Range Equine Sanctuary after years of neglect left her with severe hoof damage and chronic pain. Despite intensive veterinary and farrier care, her condition could not be reversed. After multiple professional opinions and every effort to keep her comfortable, we made the difficult decision to let her go peacefully.

Though her time with us was brief, Misty was loved, safe, and cared for every day she was here.

Intake Date: October 4th 2025- Forever Pain Free- February 27th 2026

Little Fella was the sweetest senior gentleman. He came to IRES from a loving home, and when his owners could no longer keep him, they made the kind decision to ensure he’d continue to receive the care he deserved. At 30 years old, he was diagnosed with Cushing’s disease and insulin resistance, with significant rotation in all four feet—yet he remained comfortable and full of gentle spirit.

Intake Date: October 26th 2025 - Forever Pain Free: February 7th 2026

Roxy was a gentle, loving mare who brought warmth and quiet connection to everyone she met. After struggling with lameness and a diagnosis of Degenerative Suspensory Ligament Desmitis (DSLD), we made the compassionate decision to let her go peacefully. Roxy will always be remembered for her kind spirit, her trust, and the love she so freely gave during her time in sanctuary.

Jack was a gentle 22-year-old Quarter Horse who had endured far more than any soul should. When he arrived, he was extremely emaciated, but even in his fragile state, his spirit shone through. With time, love, and care, Jack gained over 300 pounds and, more importantly, found comfort, safety, and the joy of being loved.

Jack was one of the most outgoing, affectionate horses we’ve had the honor of knowing. He greeted everyone with warmth and curiosity, and it was such a gift to watch him come out of his shell and truly blossom. Though his time with us was far too short, the love he shared will stay with us forever.

Intake Date: August 20th 2025 - Forever Pain Free: August 29th 2025

Eclipse was an incredibly sweet senior gelding, who we believe was around 25 years old, he came to us as one of the most severe cases of neglect we have seen. When we were contacted by the St. Louis Sheriffs Department we knew we had to jump in and help this sweet guy.

Molly came to Iron Range Equine Sanctuary with her companion, Penelope, in August of 2024. She struggled with knee arthritis and carried extra weight, but with some care and attention she was able to get more comfortable. While we couldn’t fully manage her pain, we were grateful to give her a couple of months where she could simply enjoy life.

Even though her time with us was short, Molly brought so much joy, love, and laughter to everyone at the sanctuary. She had a way of brightening the days around her, and she will always be remembered with warmth and gratitude.

Jazzy was a sweet 24-year-old mare who came to Iron Range Equine Sanctuary alongside her companion, Roxy. Despite living with severe heaves, Jazzy faced each day with a gentle spirit and quiet resilience.

At the sanctuary, Jazzy was given the specialized care, comfort, and calm environment she needed. We are grateful she had a place where she was cared for with compassion and where her well-being mattered every step of the way.
