In Memory of
Jack
Jack, a 22-year-old registered Quarter Horse, came to Iron Range Equine Sanctuary in October of 2024 after being found in heartbreaking condition — skin and bones, completely emaciated, and in desperate need of help. When we saw his post online, we knew we couldn’t wait. Within four hours, we were on the road to bring him home. His owner surrendered him to us, and that day marked the beginning of his new journey — one filled with care, comfort, and love.
From the moment Jack arrived, he was surrounded by round-the-clock attention and veterinary oversight. With guidance from our amazing vet team, we followed the UC Davis re-feeding protocol to give him the best possible chance at recovery. Slowly, he began to rebuild his strength and his spirit — gaining nearly 300 pounds in his first 115 days at IRES.
Once he was strong enough, Jack received dental care from a specialist, which made a world of difference. And soon, the bright, curious horse we knew he was inside began to shine through. Jack loved to roll in the dirt, bask in the sunshine, and make sure every feed pan in the barn was spotless. His joy for life and gentle nature touched everyone who met him.
Though his time with us has come to an end, Jack’s story will forever remind us why we do what we do — because every horse deserves a chance to heal, to be loved, and to know peace.
Run free, sweet Jack. You will always be part of our IRES family.
