Roxy came to us already carrying more than her share of physical challenges, yet she met each day with a quiet softness that defined who she was. From the beginning, she showed herself to be a deeply affectionate and gentle mare. She sought out connection, leaned into kind hands, and found comfort in simply being near the people who cared for her. There was a steadiness about Roxy — a calm, trusting presence that made time spent with her feel special.

Despite ongoing lameness after her arrival, Roxy continued to offer that same loving spirit. She was ultimately diagnosed with Degenerative Suspensory Ligament Desmitis (DSLD), a progressive condition that gradually limited her comfort and mobility. We pursued supportive care and pain management with her quality of life as our guiding priority. Every decision was made thoughtfully, with her well-being at the center.

When it became clear that we could no longer keep her comfortable, we made the compassionate decision to let her go peacefully. While heartbreaking, it was the final kindness we could offer her — freedom from pain and the dignity she deserved.

Roxy’s time with us may not have been long enough, but it was filled with safety, love, and gentle care. She will forever be remembered as a sweet, trusting soul who found her sanctuary, and in turn, left an imprint on our hearts that will never fade.
